AUBURN — The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival gained momentum Monday when its Hoosier Tour rolled out on a four-day journey.

A total of 35 classic cars carrying 65 people headed for north central Indiana for a week of fun and promoting this weekend’s classic car events in Auburn.

The tour concludes Thursday at noon, when the cars return to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum for the traditional kickoff luncheon.

Tour cars departed from the museum Monday morning in a steady drizzle.

“Rain or shine, it doesn’t matter. It’s about the people and sharing their experiences,” said Troy Ackerman of Auburn, who organizes the tour with his wife, Kari.

This week’s experiences will include this morning’s visit to LaVine Restorations in Nappanee, which has restored several past winners of best-of-show awards at the festival in Auburn.

Later today, tour participants dined at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend, in a former home of the Studebaker family, then toured the Studebaker National Museum.

The group is staying three nights at Oakwood Resort on Lake Wawasee near Syracuse.

Wednesday, the group will spend the day at the Amish Acres theme park in Nappanee.
