AUBURN — Van’s Home Center and Buttermore Appliances, both local, family-owned and -operated businesses in Auburn, say they have united under the Van’s Home Center brand.

The new partnership combines nearly 90 years of experience in the home furnishing, appliance and customer-service industries, the owners said.

Van’s Home Center’s is currently expanding and remodeling, approximately doubling the size of its store at the west edge of Auburn. It will feature new showrooms for flooring and cabinets and a new showroom for appliances with working kitchens for demonstrations.

Doug Dick, president and second-generation owner of Van’s Home Center, and Brad Buttermore, owner of Buttermore Appliances, said the timing could not have been more perfect.

“We’ve known Brad and his team for years,” Dick said in a news release, “and given how much we’ve expanded the appliance showroom, we knew we were going to need an experienced team to help support that growth. There was no question of who I thought that should be.”

Buttermore said said there is more than products and services binding the two companies.

“We’re in this business for the same reasons, and that’s staying true to our local community and understanding that loyal customers come from providing excellent customer service,” Buttermore said.

Dick and Buttermore said they acknowledge the trend toward e-commerce and big-box stores, but they still remain positive about the future.

“We work hard to maintain an online presence, and know how it important it is,” Dick said. “But those products still have to be delivered, installed and serviced. That’s why this still is, and always will be, a service business. What makes Van’s Home Center different is that we’re large enough to compete on selection and price, but still maintain in-house delivery, installation and service teams.”

“We’ve built a business based on 45 years of customer service and satisfaction, and have evolved from when my parents opened Van’s TV and Appliance in Angola in 1973 to where we stand today, as Van’s Home Center,” Dick said. “This partnership will provide a whole new level of customer service and satisfaction, kick-starting us into the next 45 years.”

Van and Mary Lou Dick founded Van’s TV and Appliance in Angola in September 1973. They continued to offer more products, including home furniture, Van’s moved to Auburn in 2005 and now is known as Van’s Home Center.

Brad Buttermore started Buttermore Appliances in October 1974 and expanded into an appliance retail and service business. Until the merger, the business was based in downtown Auburn. The downtown store closed effective Jan. 1.
