AUBURN — The second and longest phase of the 6th & Main Streetscape Project is scheduled to begin today in downtown Auburn, the city’s Department of Building, Planning and Development reports.
Crosby Excavating will work on 6th Street between Main and Jackson streets. Underground pipe work will come first, followed by the removal of curbs and sidewalks, then the installation of new curbs and sidewalks.

This phase is targeted to last about 10 weeks. When it is finished, work on 6th Street will be finished except for asphalt work and landscaping.

The street will be closed to traffic except for use of the PNC Bank and Beacon Credit Union drive-throughs. No parking will be available. The intersections at 6th and Jackson and 6th and Main are expected to remain open. Foot traffic will be permitted except in the case of safety issues.

The first phase of the project – a storm sewer in the 6th and Main intersection and 150 feet into East 6th Street — was to have been completed Tuesday with the intersection reopened.
