AUBURN — Plans for a new Taylor Rental building will go before the Auburn Plan Commission for approval Tuesday at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
The business is proposing a 21,000-square-foot, steel structure at 2224 S.R. 8, west of its existing building.
Taylor Rental would occupy 11,000 square feet of the new building, said company President Ben Smaltz.
The portion of the building facing S.R. 8 could house a family-style restaurant. Smaltz said his company is talking with a restaurant as a possible tenant.
“Auburn always needs more restaurants,” Smaltz said. “If we can come to an agreement with them, they’ll open up before we open up.”
The restaurant wing of the new building could be ready by late fall, with Taylor Rental moving into its new home by March 2019, Smaltz said.
Taylor Rental’s existing building, in use since the business started in 1977, would come down next year to make room for parking and a grassy area.
“It’ll clean up this whole corner. We’re the least modern of all the buildings out here, so I think it helps everybody to have us be a much more modern look,” Smaltz said.
Taylor Rental’s new home will have less floor space than the existing building, but will use space more efficiently and have taller ceilings,” Smaltz said.
“It’ll be great to have everything in one place where everybody’s close together — very efficient, clean,” he said.
