FORT WAYNE — U.S. Rep. Jim Banks, R-3rd, will host a Service Academy Day on Sept. 22 at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base for local students who are interested in attending any of the five U.S. service academies.
“Every year I have the honor of nominating dedicated Hoosiers to our nation’s service academies,” Banks said. “Service Academy Day gives interested students the opportunity to hear directly from the academies and learn more about the admissions process.”
The Air National Guard Base is at 3005 Ferguson Road. Along with Banks and his staff, representatives will be present from these service academies:
• U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York;
• U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland;
• U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut;
• U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York; and
• U.S Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The representatives will speak about the academies and be available to answer questions afterward. The value of an appointment to a service academy is equivalent to a $400,000 scholarship.
Doors will open for registration at 10 a.m., and the event lasts until 12:30 p.m.
To gain entry to the base on Academy Day, students and their guests must register with Tinisha Weigelt at with their names, driver’s license numbers and state of issuance, and birthdates.
